Fromsoft's newest game took the world by storm, it quickly gained the "most anticipated game of the year" award. Tons of pre-orders were placed. Did the game live up to its hype?
Somewhat. The ER's single player is without a doubt its strongest point, despite its glaring issues. The multiplayer, however, is a nightmare. It is ludicrously unbalanced. Rivers of Blood is one of the best multiplayer weapons, no contest. Its quick attacks, paired with high damage and high bleed buildup make this weapon a nightmare to fight. Many people consider the weapon to be unfair.
The good bits of ER are- the story, the NPCs, the open world, the environments (except the Lake of Rot), the bosses and their themes (Rennala, Godskins, Godfrey, Radagon, Radahn, et cetera), and good character customization.
The bad bits are- re-used bosses. This is not inherently a bad thing, but it gets old fighting a Burial Watchdog for the 60th time in a row, or an Ulcerated Tree Spirit, or an UTS with rot. The bosses that were re-used are not great. I do enjoy the Erdtree Avatars though. The problem is re-using bosses that are not great. The other bad bits are- the multiplayer, bad fashion, strength weapons feel underpowered, the bosses (Malenia), and Elden Stars.
Elden Ring without the multiplayer is easily a 8 or 9 out of ten, but the multiplayer drags that down to a 6 or 7. The multiplayer is mostly busted and un-fun.
Recently Fromsoft has nerfed rivers of blood, stars of ruin, and bloodhound's step. This will undoubtedly improve the game's multiplayer.
Get a load of this guy. He thinks he's a game journalist.
